Originally from New York, Dr. Blau completed his undergraduate degree at SUNY Stony Brook. He then finished his graduate degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Cornell before moving to North Carolina where he attended medical school at UNC. Dr. Blau is currently the program director of the Pain Medicine Training Program at UNC.

Brain Cancer with Dr. Matt Ewend

Matt Ewend

This weekend, Dr. Matt Ewend, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at UNC, will join YOUR HEALTH Radio to talk about brain cancer.

Dr. Ewend completed his medical school, neurosurgery residency and neuro-oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.  He became the Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at UNC in 2004, and in July, 2010, when Neurosurgery was elevated to a Department, Dr. Ewend became its first chair.  He is the program leader for Neuro-oncology in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Under Dr. Ewend’s tenure as Division Chief and now as Chair, UNC Neurosurgery has grown from three to ten full time neurosurgeons, six based in Chapel Hill and four at a new neurosurgery site in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

This is the second in a four part series on cancer care with experts from the NC Cancer Hospital and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Upcoming guests in the series include: Dr. Richard Goldberg and Dr. Linda Van Le. Please tune in either Saturday at 9am, Sunday at 9am and 5 pm, or Monday at 6pm and 10pm on WCHL 1360AM.
